From the turn of the century, vast changes from horse to mechanical energy supplied by steam, electricity, and gasoline...the church at Tabler Station had stood as a calming influence amidst a tumult of change.
The church building was constructed in 1910 as the outgrowth of a "new" Sunday School movement then in itself a radical change. The congregation had a building but did not become a formal church until 1919 when it became a Presbyterian Church of the Winchester Presbytery.
This year, 2010, a new roadway was established that altered the traffic patterns by the church and it presents a new set of challenges and changes to come. Change definitely is a constant.
After a century of Christian presence amid change the present congregation seeks to draw interest to its viability, reconnect with the community, and to recognize its former leaders, families, and friends.
On Saturday, September 25th at 2:00 p.m., a Reception will be held at the church. It will be a time to look at specially assembled photo albums of past congregations and events that have been prepared by the Evangelism Rededication Committee. It will be a time to gather and renew friendships, past associations, and to talk and visit.
We have been in preparation for the events for months as we put down a new tile floor in the meeting room, painted the interior of the sanctuary, and installed a new carpet there.
The following day, Sunday, September 26th at 2:00 p.m., a Rededication Worship Service will be observed. Visiting clergy, family representatives from the charter members and early church will be recognized, stories will be shared of past events, and everyone will be a part of the rededication service and commitment into the next century of service.
Those in attendance will be given a copy of the newly written church history book published by the church this year. Each family represented will get a copy of the compilation of Session minutes from 1910 until 2009, Women of the Church records, and a historical review of what was happening in Berkeley County by decades. A special Commemorative pen will be a gift from the congregation to those who are there that day.
To engage the community, the church Evangelism - Outreach group has planned a series of activities throughout the year and a listing of those is found on the under Upcoming Events.
Please phone Pastor William D. Moore at 304-267-2916 with questions or comments regarding events for the reception and rededication 2010.
